Inside SVG: Cady Walter

February 22, 2017  /

In this month’s Inside SVG, we chatted with semi-pro baker, QuikTrip fanatic, and Talent Acquisition Specialist, Cady Walter.

What do you do here at SVG?

I’m a Talent Acquisition Specialist within the Recruiting Department. My goal is to bring in the best quality talent and help give applicants a great first impression of SVG!

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love meeting and connecting with our future employees. Having built that initial connection with our new employees, I get to have a relationship with them before they even step foot in the office. As these people come on board, I love watching their journey all the way from their first day to seeing them find success here!

How do you have a hand in preserving and enhancing our culture?

People who engage me really well on the phone are applicants I think will not only succeed here, but mesh with our culture. Part of our culture here at SVG is that we genuinely like people, so when I get that “vibe” from someone, I know they’ll fit in here with the culture we’ve already established.

How do you think SVG stands apart in terms of how we recruit?

Our culture sells itself, but we want to convey who we are at our core from the start. We want to have clear, prompt communication with potential new hires. We don’t let applicants sit around not knowing how the hiring process is going. It’s already a stressful process, so we try to ease that for applicants through consistent updates.

During your time at SVG, what have you learned about yourself?

I’ve learned that I’m much more confident than I thought I was. I’ve learned so much by engaging with clients over the phone, so as I engage applicants, I’m much more calm and confident when picking up the phone.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I absolutely love to bake! My most recent adventure was making a rainbow unicorn cake for my niece’s birthday. It was complete with layers of fun-fetti cake and rainbow merengue and icing!

If you had a billboard in KC, what would it say?

“Travel does for the soul, what education does for the mind.”

When you think of success, who comes to mind?

It’s cliché, but definitely my parents. From an early age, they engrained the concepts of working hard to find success in me. Life is not about monetary success, but genuinely finding ways to be happy.

What is something you can’t live without?

Quiktrip. The drinks, the snacks, just everything about it. Quiktrip never lets you down.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I took a Buzzfeed quiz and I got a turtle! I think it’s accurate for me because I can be very chill and slow-paced when making big decisions, but I can also be a fast thinker and quick on my feet when I need to. I think that translates well to the difference of when a turtle is on land or in the water. I think Buzzfeed nailed this one!
