For this month’s Inside SVG, we chatted with Sales Manager and former KU football player, Ryan Murphy.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities as a Sales Manager?

Every day my goal is to help my team find success. Oftentimes that’s through pipeline management, call reviews, or simply helping them stay motivated. I’ve been in their shoes, so I can relate to everything they go through and help them improve their sales skills.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Starting a career in sales can be daunting, so seeing people learn and have success is definitely my favorite part of the job. Whether it is someone becoming a Sales Coach or simply finding a higher sense of confidence, my proudest moments are when I see someone on my team thrive.

What has being a sales manager taught you about yourself?

It has taught me to be flexible, set realistic goals, and accept people’s limitations. Understanding the differences from one person to the next really helps you lock in on the best way to help them succeed.

What about SVG makes you proud to work here?

The people and the culture for sure! We have such a unique environment that encourages competition right alongside teamwork. There is an understanding that everyone has unique ideas to bring to the table, and I’ve always felt like I’ve had a voice here. We’ve all had a hand in creating the culture as it is today.

What habits have you developed that set you up for success?

I’m very diligent about getting my work done first thing in the morning. Also, my mom taught me to always look presentable, so now I can’t go more than a week without a haircut!

What is the best piece of advice you’d give a sales agent?

Don’t count the days, make the days count. We get so caught up in numbers that sometimes we move too fast and anticipate the future too much. I really believe we should all enjoy the moment because the future is never certain.
